Half of the population can present light sleep apnea, that is, rustand with a short respiratory break. Find out what the problem worsens
Russare can be something “normal”. However, it can often compromise the patient’s quality of life. In fact, the condition can also be such a serious social problem that it can lead to separations in a relationship and problems in everyday life.
“I have a patient who does not go by plane, because his snoring is very high, thus generating a serious social problem. This patient does not sleep in anyone’s house and, even to sleep at the hotel, the guests of the bedroom next to them complain. So this is a very serious social limit, also based on relationships”, Dr. Dr. Lucas Sampaio exemplifies.
According to him, the snoring itself is the noise caused by the vibration of pharyngeal fabrics and is defined as the air that passes somewhere. “When we sleep, we relax the muscles and, if we have a belly, the tongue goes backwards, reducing the space to pass the air and generate the snoring,” explains Lucas.
What worsen the snoring?
Lucas explains that the greatest villain of snoring is overweight. This is because the accumulation of cervical fat and also at the base of the language narrows the passage of air on the airways. “In this way, the air will vibrate more and, consequently, the person oscillates more intensely. Therefore the snoring whether or not the apnea has to deal with not having an overweight. Other factors are an excessive ingestion of alcohol,” he says.
“When the person drinks more, it relaxes and, consequently, even his muscles. So the air will pass more turned, generating more snoring, and this thought also serves for any drug than silk and relaxed,” he explains.
Is every snoring night apnea?
According to an article published by the scientific magazine Lancet, about 49.7% of the Brazilian population has at least a slight sleep apnea, which is when a short respiratory stop occurs.
“The person is snoring and there he stops breathing, the saturation falls and that known russare occurs when he breathes again. Therefore the apnea leads to the loss of oxygenation in the body, generating, over time, the microSeons in the central nervous system. This breath stop can reach the minutes and their classification is performed according to the number of apnea events in one night,” the doctor explains.
Risks and diagnosis
According to Lucas, there are no scientific works that the damage is different in each individual and ends up increasing the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, among other comorbilities.
“A person who snakes should look for a specialized doctor, preferably an otolaryngologist, to see if he has structural changes in the nose or throat that leads to this picture of the apnea, to decide the best form of treatment, surgical or clinical”, he warns.
Lucas, who specializes in otolaryngology, adds that the examination of choice for diagnosis is respiratory and neurological polysomonography. But in some cases, a neurologist can be used if polysomnography has neurological changes.
“For the treatment, we should start with a weight loss and therefore individualize, since there is more than one treatment option, such as the intraoral device, the CPAP and the surgery”, concludes the doctor.
