Teenager with “Rapunzel Syndrome” has a giant ball of hair removed from the stomach

An extreme case of “Rapunzel Syndrome” has become a scientific article after a 17 -year -old surgery subjected to removing a giant ball from the stomach. The procedure, performed by experts from Saudi Arabia and Egypt, was published in the scientific journal Journal of Surgical Case Reports, From the University of Oxford, England.

According to publication, the young woman entered the hospital with abdominal pain complaints, frequent vomiting and oral hiring intolerance.

For doctors, the adolescent managers reported that they had a history of the bite, a dietary disorder in which the patient has the coaction to eat substances that are not food – in the case of young people, hair.

During the exams, the doctors discovered that the patient had a swollen and stopped abdomen, with a large and palpable mass in the hip region. A tomography revealed that hair composed of hair, called Tricobezoar, occupied all the stomach and part of the duodenum of the young woman.

“Attempts to remove by endoscopy did not work due to the size and extension of the bezoar, causing the need for an open surgical procedure. A large Tricobezoar was carefully taken intact,” described the doctors. Overall, the procedure took three hours.

In addition, according to the experts, the teenager recovered without occurring and, after the intervention, was also addressed for the psychiatric evaluation, in order to prevent the repetition of the situation.
