The decision, announced at the beginning of this month, was based on animal studies, which underlined possible adverse effects on fertility. In Brazil, the use of the substance is still allowed.
The 1st Secretary of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, Rosana Lazzarini, recommends the use of gel nails, regardless of whether they have the TPO or not. According to her, the entire application process provides risks both for those who use and for professionals who perform the procedure, the main are acrylic resins.
“Acrylates are well known and able to cause serious allergic reactions to users, users and professionals who apply them. The cases generally involve fingers and sometimes their hands completely, the latter is common in professionals”, underlines in an interview with Earth.
It underlines that the application requires the wear of the user’s nails and causes acute damage and sometimes permanent damage, such as the detachment of the nails, as well as serious allergic reactions.
“If an allergy to acrylate occurs, the patient will have future problems that use other products with acrylate, such as dental resins, stress, adhesive medications, surgical and others”, explains Lazzarini.
