Maria Grazia Chiuri will present her first collection in February
Italian designer Maria Grazia Chiuri has been appointed as the new creative director of Fendi, six months after leaving Dior, the luxury brand announced this Tuesday (14).
According to Fendi, its first collection will be for autumn/winter 2026-27, with a presentation scheduled for Milan Fashion Week in February next year.
The appointment marks the designer’s return to the maison, where she worked for 10 years, between 1989 and 1999, as an accessories designer.
During this time, she was responsible for the development of the Baguette bag, one of the brand’s most iconic models.
“Maria Grazia Chiuri is one of the greatest creative talents in fashion today and I am delighted that she has chosen to return to Fendi to continue expressing her creativity within the LVMH Group, after sharing her bold vision of fashion,” said Bernard Arnault, President and CEO of the LVMH Group, owner of Fendi.
Will Chiuri take on the creative direction of all the brand’s lines? feminine, masculine and haute couture? with the mission to restructure the brand.
“It is with honor and joy that I return to Fendi, where I had the privilege of growing up under the guidance of the five founding sisters,” said the 61-year-old designer.
According to Chiuri, Fendi was a place of training “of talent and the starting point for many creators, thanks to the extraordinary ability of those five women to cultivate generations with vision and competence”.
He will succeed Silvia Venturini Fendi, heir to the brand’s founders, who had been responsible for accessories and men’s lines since 1994, and had also taken over the women’s collections after the departure of British designer Kim Jones a year ago.
Chiuri made history by becoming the first woman to hold the position of artistic director at Dior. After the stylists John Galliano and Raf Simons, she managed to impose her “vision of the Dior woman”, also through collaborations with female artists.
The designer also attracted attention when she presented her first show for the French fashion house, in October 2016, with a white t-shirt printed with the phrase: “We should all be feminists”, inspired by the essay by Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. .
