Is it possible to lose weight simply by walking as exercise?

Walking is, for many, the first step towards a healthier life. Easy to practice, free and accessible, it can be done anywhere and does not require complex equipment. But is walking enough to lose weight?

“Any activity that increases calorie expenditure will help in the weight loss process. Walking and running are aerobic activities and help a lot,” explained physical educator Márcio Atalla on his YouTube channel.

The expert underlines that it must be taken into account that the less intense the walk, the longer the duration must be to have a greater caloric deficit. “The bottom line is, if you don’t do any work to gain muscle mass, you end up losing mass. It’s important to dedicate a few days to strength work,” he explained.

Dr. Paula Pires, endocrinologist and metabolologist at SBEM and lifestyle doctor, highlights:

– Walking burns calories and helps you lose weight little by little.

– Bodybuilding helps maintain and gain muscle mass by speeding up the metabolism.

“You can lose weight simply by walking, especially if you do it with a good diet. The combination of the two is best for your health and for faster weight loss,” says the doctor.

Benefits of walking:

– Gives mood and improves the heart.

– Reduces stress.

– It’s easy and can be done anywhere.

No isolated physical activity works miracles. For walking to become slimming, it is necessary to combine it with a balanced diet and a caloric deficit, i.e. consuming fewer calories than you consume. Furthermore, opting for natural foods, avoiding ultra-processed foods and maintaining good hydration are attitudes that enhance the results of physical activity.
