The proposal provides for the possibility for women to take two days of sick leave during the menstrual period; The text will be analyzed by the Senate
THE Chamber of Deputies approved on Tuesday the 28th the bill authorizing women to take sick leave for up to two days a month during their menstrual cycle. The proposal, aimed at workers who suffer from intense colic, is now being examined Federal Senate.
As foreseen in the text drawn up by the deputy Jandira Feghali (PCdoB-RJ), to obtain paid leave, the worker must submit a medical report proving the condition that prevents her from carrying out her activity. If the measure were sanctioned, it could be applied to women CLT holders, interns and domestic workers.
The approved text is the result of the unification of previous proposals and suggestions received from the Defense of Women’s Rights and Administration and Public Service Commissions.
“The substitute makes a significant contribution to Brazilian labor legislation, historically conceived according to a chauvinist logic that did little to incorporate the specificities of women”, said MP Marcivania (PCdoB-AP), rapporteur of the project in the Chamber.
According to the deputy, menstrual leave is an instrument of equity and prevention in matters of health at work.
