THE Basilica of the Sagrada Familiain Barcelona, in Spain, won this Thursday (30th) the title of tallest church in the world. The milestone was achieved after installing a new part in the central tower, raising the structure to impressive heights. 162.91 meters highas communicated by the ecclesiastical administration.
The company moves the Ulmer Cathedral, in Germany, which, with its 161.53 metres, had held the record since its construction in 1890. Even if the administration of the Sagrada Familia does not directly claim the title, the numbers speak for themselves: the work of Antoni Gaudí now it surpasses the Lutheran church by just over a meter.

And the grandeur of the basilica still has no limits. The central tower of Jesus Christwhich will constitute the highest point of the final project, should reach 172 meters in the coming months. The first part of this tower was placed by crane this Thursday morning above the main nave, a significant step in the construction that began in 1882. Gaudí, who died in 1926 with only one of the towers completed, knew he would never see his masterpiece finished.
