When açaí can be harmful
Despite being a highly nutritious fruit, açaí requires careful consumption. Amanda warns that “for people with diabetes, excessive consumption of açaí can be harmful, especially when the pulp is mixed with syrups, sugar, honey or industrialized granola.” These combinations significantly increase blood sugar.
It further explains that “although pure açaí has a low glycemic index, it is high in calories and, in large quantities, can contribute to weight gain and lack of glycemic control.”
