This question is to avoid confusing the purpose of your training.
Hypertrophy is when muscles increase in volume due to overload work. This type of proposal requires intense physical exercise and a regulated diet. However, questions still arise about what should or should not be consumed. For example: Do painkillers, such as dipyrone, interfere with hypertrophy?
The response and addition to the impact of dipyrone on exercise
“Dipyrone does not hinder the cellular response in hypertrophy at all. Some studies suggest that the use of anti-inflammatories can compromise hypertrophy mainly by reducing the inflammatory response. But there is no clear evidence of chronic and daily use. Dipyrone does not hinder hypertrophy”, responded exclusively to Sport Life, sports doctor and physiatrist Dr. Fabrício Buzatto.
Asked shortly afterwards about the significance of dipyrone for those following an exercise routine, Dr Fabrício said that this simple analgesic, used to combat pain, can increase the risk of injury if ingested without limits.
“The big problem with dipyrone is that it can often ‘mask’ pain symptoms, which are a sign of some risk, such as injury or other ailments. Therefore, excessive use of the analgesic together with training can lead to this risk. This is unfortunately a common practice in many athletes who mainly use anti-inflammatories or analgesics before competitions and training to achieve better performance,” the doctor stressed.
After all, do painkillers hinder hypertrophy?
“Anti-inflammatories can, in theory, hinder hypertrophy, but in practice this fact is not seen much. Except for chronic, daily use or at high doses, which end up having other repercussions and compromising hypertrophy. This concept was born because it is believed that one of the mechanisms of hypertrophy is the inflammatory response. This response facilitates the entry of new amino acids into the formation of muscle fibers. So, in theory, anti-inflammatories would prevent it”, concluded the researcher. Dr. Fabricio Buzzatto.
Other interesting facts about dipyron
This medicine was banned for common use in the United States in 1977. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) report accused dipyrone of being unsafe in November of that year. In addition to this publication, there is still suspicion of agranulocytosis in this analgesic, a rare and serious disease caused by drugs and with a mortality rate of approximately 10%.
Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) created the “International Dipirona Safety Assessment Panel” in July 2001 to clarify the risks and, on that occasion, a consensus was created on its effectiveness.

Walking, playing football and weight training are Brazilians’ favorite physical exercises. The group of researchers from the FCM (Faculty of Medical Sciences) of Unicamp (University of Campinas) reached this conclusion after analyzing the epidemiological data of 60,202 people over the age of 18.
