Test: trick to cook spaghetti evenly without breaking the dough

How to portion spaghetti

First of all we want to suggest a simple technique to be able to portion the quantity of spaghetti and avoid waste. The best part is you just have to use your little fingers!

Make an “ok” sign with your thumb and forefingerwhat determines the number of portions is the empty space between your fingers, a space that you have to fill with the dough once you have established the quantity of the portion.

The variation is quite simple:

  • 1 person: closing the index finger in the first crease of the thumb, you will have this portion;
  • 2 people: if you put your finger on the second fold;
  • For 3 to 4 people: if you place your index finger on the tip of the thumb.

Of course, this is not a rule, but it helps a lot. Another idea is to use a PET bottle mouthpiece, demonstrate the quantity for 1 person.

1 person | 2 people | For 3 to 4 people

Now yes, it’s time to put the dough to bake

In the first phase there was no mystery, we used a large pot with plenty of boiling water and added salt. We will talk more about it, but it is worth remembering that you should not put oil or olive oil in the cooking water of the pasta.

The cat jump has finally arrived! We put the portion of spaghetti in the center of the pan holding it with one hand and turning the top with the other.. The spaghetti sticks are intertwined. At the first sign of softening, we drop the dough into the pan, as in the photo.

Result: Does twisting the spaghetti make cooking easier?

Quick answer: Yes!

Despite being known by few, the technique is very effective and makes the pasta dip and cook evenly inside the pan, unlike the conventional method. An extremely efficient method, which avoids the need to break the dough.

3 tips for cooking pasta effectively

1. The ideal amount of water

It is common sense among chefs who, for every 100 g of pasta there should be 1 liter of boiling water. In this way the dough will have more space inside the pan and it will hardly stick. Don’t forget that the pot must also be large to hold all this water.

In fact, this is a test you can take to break the myth that oil is added so the dough doesn’t stick.

2. Do not put oil or olive oil in the pasta cooking water

Adding oil while the pasta is cooking will make it greasier, as well as creating a greasy layer that makes it difficult for the sauce you decide to serve with the pasta to stick and absorb.

3. It is not recommended to break long pasta

Pasta shapes are very varied, specific and serve a purpose.

In the case of long pasta, such as spaghetti, they are made this way so that once cooked they are easier to curl on a fork. So, by breaking them, you give up not only aesthetics, but also a very useful functionality of these mass models.

Not only that, as we said, the size of the dough also serves to indicate the size of the pan to be used, due to the water. It is not interesting to prepare this pasta in small containers (and with little water), because even if the pasta is broken, the preparation will be inefficient and the pasta could stick.

Who tried it and loved it!

Some almanacs they told us they already knew the technique, while others were impressed with the test result:
