The fashion project encourages the potential of young people in Bahia

Every year Salvador reveals itself even more present when it comes to offering children, young people and adolescents new perspectives on life through what makes it one of the most loved and welcoming cities in the world, culture.

Salvador has experience in launching projects that divide the life of young people in the suburbs, such as the work done with mastery by Focus Moda Produções, which has been working with blacks in the suburbs for 6 years, putting into practice its entire strategy of inclusion, protagonism and self-esteem through fashion, theater, dance and music.

“Our strategy has helped countless young people to accept themselves and recognize their differences, outside the standards of commercial fashion. The group works with several people in situations of high social vulnerability, such as those on the outskirts of Salvador. Due to the direct incentive of the group (since it is a condition to remain in the same group) many young people have resumed their studies, many of them have entered university “, says Jonas Bueno, who in addition to coordinator of the FMP, is also a model, producer, actor and agent. Cultural.

More than 1200 people, including children and young people, have already participated in the activities of the project, which began in Forte do Barbalho with activities that have awakened body and mind through fashion, dance and the performing arts. In 2016 he started working at the Centro Cultural Plataforma serving 90 young people and in 2017 he started working at Espaço Subúrbio 360, with 120 young people.

“The goal of our project is to qualify and empower people so that they can develop their skills without prejudice, in a differentiated environment, aiming to make them become people with special aptitudes for challenges both in the formal learning system and in the formal labor market or entrepreneurship in the city of Salvador ”, explains Jonas Bueno.

Focus Moda Produções does not aim only at fashion, it goes beyond what the name itself says, in the Focus strategy other points are also crucial, such as the integral qualification that goes from self-esteem, to acceptance, to respect for human rights up to the achievement of recognition of the individual and collective potential of its members.

Focus on fashion.

Integral development qualifications are also available to all members: culture and diversity, interpersonal relationships, black culture, among others. For these results, the group counts on partnerships such as the AIDS Prevention Support Group, universities and black movements.

“The beneficiaries of the project are mostly young people (between 16 and 29 years old), even some up to 50 years old, coming from the suburbs of Salvador. LGBTQIA +, mostly black, low-income and variable-educated. The profile of our project is to show the “real profile of people” and not just commercial profiles. The main vacancies are available for young LGBTQIA + blacks on the outskirts of Salvador, who, for lack of opportunities, often suffer violence or end up being involved in the world of marginalization and crime ”, underlines the coordinator.

Currently in the historic center of Salvador, with 6 large halls and facilities, Focus Moda sees a promising future in the strengthening and permanent incorporation of institutional partnerships.

The project also supports those who have to issue the documentation of the first and second copy of a Carta di Lavoro, CPF and Creditação de Nascimento, register in CadÚnico to receive social benefits and rectify their gender and social name, accompanied by the Office of the Public Defender of the State of Bahia.

“The legacy of the project is to demonstrate the importance of working with people in an integral way, fostering their potential in an environment free from prejudice. The Project intends to become a flywheel of initiatives for the “different” public, generally discriminated against, such as blacks, LGBTQIA +, overweight or disabled people (since our offices are structurally accessible to all people) “, concludes Jonas Bueno, coordinator of the project. .
