comes to weight loss, in a healthy and constant way, without it becoming a compulsive obsession and bringing very aggressive results, it is not such a simple task. Therefore, it is common to find several myths on the subject. And, being so, one of them is that eating a lot for breakfast would, in theory, increase calorie expenditure throughout the day.

However, this is not exactly true. But on the other hand, having a good breakfast every day can increase overall satiety. That is, it will reduce your smoking throughout the day. Which, in itself, is already very interesting for any healthy weight loss process.

Weight Loss Study and Breakfast

All of these findings are the result of a study conducted at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and recently published in the scientific journal Cell Metabolism. According to the researchers, a good breakfast doesn’t help burn more calories, but it can provide more satiety for the rest of the day.

To reach this conclusion, the study analyzed two groups of people for four weeks. Half of the volunteers should have consumed most of their calories in the morning and the other half in the evening.

And the result was that there was no significant difference in weight loss or energy expenditure between people in the two groups. However, those who consumed more calories in the morning reported feeling less hungry during the day. That is, something that, in the long run, tends to favor greater adherence to the weight loss diet. After all, no one can bear to be under severe restrictions for too long.

The researchers also found that the group who ate breakfast as the most important meal of the day also had a lower level of ghrelin, known as the “hunger hormone.” In addition, they still had a higher level of GLP-1, a hormone associated with satiety.

This means that if you eat a good breakfast every day, you are more likely to stick to the diet longer. But be careful not to extrapolate the calories in the first meal of the day. The most important thing to lose weight is, in fact, the daily calorie deficit. In other words, you spend more energy than you consume every day.
