Japan reopens its borders to tourists


The country has already made a partial opening, but from 11 October it will be unlimited. Brazilians still need a visa

After two years of closure, Japan will largely reopen its borders to tourism on 11 October. The country had already made a partial opening since 7 September, but for now only visitors who have a connection with an incoming agency based in Japan can enter. The novelty was announced by Fumio Kishida, Japanese Prime Minister, during the United Nations General Assembly, a New York.

The limitation on the number of visitors to the country, which currently reaches 50,000 travelers, will also be abolished. According to the minister, the measures are aimed at encouraging the travel sector, which has been severely affected by the pandemic. Another driver for Japanese tourism is the devaluation of the yen, which has reached its lowest level against the dollar in 24 years.

Travelers who have been immunized with at least three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will not need to submit the RT-PCR test to travel. On the Japanese Ministry of Health website, however, Coronavac is not on the list of accepted vaccines. According to the advice of Japan’s World Tourism Organization, a more detailed statement on accepted immunizers will still be issued. Brazilians need a visa to visit Japan.
