Belo Horizonte: Beer Tour Saves Football Stories

The tour in the capital of Minas Gerais combines beer and snacks with the stories of Atlético, America and Cruzeiro

the race Nostalgic football club, in Belo Horizonte, tells the story of football in the city. And what about football matches? Beer and pub food, of course! The script, which lasts about four hours, unites this beloved triad.

Belo Horizonte: Beer Tour Saves Football Stories

The experience starts at city parkwhere the Atlético Mineiro was founded and where it ends Central market, which was once the American football stadium. During the trip, BH’s current scenarios are compared with old photos of the same places. Newspaper clippings of the time contextualize the importance of these places for the history of Minas Gerais football.

The tour, conceived and conducted by journalists Rafael Sette and Luísa Dalcin, includes stops in three heritage bars in Belo Horizonte, one for each great team in the city: the Luca’s table, or Palhares coffee and the Fortaleza Bar (inside the Central Market). Food and beer are included at all three stops. In each, the sommelier Luísa also harmonises six different styles of beer with football memories: the participant decides whether he wants to remember a good or bad moment of the team of each bar and receives a “beer cookie” with a QR code. The code directs the person to the chosen memory and indicates the beer that corresponds to the moment, which can be bitter, sweet, light or sour.

“It is not a tour to discuss football, it is to travel through the history of a city. When we enter the Central Market, the participants know that they are also entering an old stadium, where championships were decided and idols emerged. We use photos and newspaper clippings to save the memory and even laugh at some nonsense of the time “, Luísa emphasizes. “Our audience is not limited to the cliché of male footballers, on the contrary: we usually have 50% female audience and there are many participants, men and women, who do not even like football, but participate for the curious history of le teams, gastronomy and parties “, he jokes.

For Rafael, the choice of bars and brewery is essential to reinforce the signature of the Minas Gerais pub during the tour. “Brüder is a reference in beer in the state. Cantina do Lucas turns 60 and is listed as a heritage of BH. Café Palhares is the current two-time champion of Comida di Buteco and has created the Kaol, the iconic dish of the city. And Bar Fortaleza has the most famous liver with eggplant in the Central Market. We thus create a unique and very complete experience “, concludes the journalist.

Nostálgicos FC is played two Saturdays a month. The ticket costs R $ 95 and includes more than a liter of beer per person and snacks at the three bars along the way. Reservations can be made from Instagram or from Sympla. For more information, visit the official website. Under 18s can join the tour, but are excluded from beer tasting.
