According to the Federal Pharmacy Council, Brazil is among the ten most drug-consuming countries in the world. According to the Association of Pharmaceutical Research Industry (Interfarma), in fact, the forecast is that the Brazilian pharmaceutical market will move between 39 and 43 billion dollars in 2023, selling an average of 238 million doses of medicines.
Between April 2020 and 2021, IQVIA (world leader in providing information in the clinical sector) analyzed the drugs most consumed by Brazilians. Top of the list is ivermectin, followed by medications for diabetes, weight management, and clotting. So, check the ranking with the 7 most consumed drugs in the country.
1. Ivermectin
Despite the popularity of medicinal during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is not indicated for the treatment of the disease, according to the Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency). As prescribed in the package insert, it is recommended for the treatment of infections caused by worms and parasites, such as filariasis (blood infection), ascariasis (intestinal infection), and is effective against lice and scabies, an infection of the skin caused by the mite.
2. Saxony

Also known as “Losartan”, this drug is indicated in cases of hypertension and heart failure. However, according to the package insert, it is contraindicated for pregnant women, diabetics and people with liver function problems.
5. Ozempic
This drug is also among the drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes. information from Anvisa, in combination with diets and exercise, it helps in blood sugar control. Presented as a solution for injection, it should only be used with a prescription.
6. Gardening
According to information from the Ministry of Health, this drug is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with heart failure, can reduce the risk of hospitalization for the disease and delay the loss of kidney function. However, it is contraindicated for people who are allergic to any component of the formula or in case of hereditary diseases. Also, it should only be used with a prescription.
