The pediatrician explains the sources of this vitamin and how to supplement it to ensure health

When it comes to protecting the baby and the baby, several factors can help us take care of the health and well-being of our little ones. Food has a strong influence on the growth, immunization and quality of life of the child.

Understanding the importance of vitamin D for children and babies

Vitamins are essential, especially vitamin D, which plays a vital role in the production and maintenance of calcium in the bone structure. This vitamin is naturally produced by the body as long as the skin is exposed to the sun, the ultraviolet rays of which transform the carotene existing in the body into vitamin D.

Sources of vitamin D.

It is essential that the child and the baby Sunbathe every day to avoid vitamin deficiency, but it cannot be during peak hours, due to the high incidence of infrared rays. My recommendation is to sunbathe until 10am and / or after 4pm. Some foods also contain vitamin D, such as fish (tuna, salmon, mackerel, eel), cod liver oil, dry cereals, beef liver, eggs, among others.

In addition to the sun, some foods are sources of vitamin D

Consequences of vitamin deficiency

Deficiency of this vitamin can affect the health of the little ones. Some diseases are directly related to this deficiency, in particular rickets, which is characterized by the presence of aching bones, muscle fragility, decreased growth, increased tendency to bone lesions, skeletal deformations, among other consequences that damage the health of the child.

Children need to supplement with vitamin D

Vitamin D is the only one whose supplementation is necessary for babies, since breast milk, as well as other foods offered to the smallest in the first year of life, does not contain the quantities necessary for their body, due to their phase of broad growth. (A baby gains, on average, nearly 250% of his or her body mass in the first year.)

So don’t forget to offer Foods rich in Vitamin D and sunbathing for your baby, respecting the times indicated. If you have any questions on the subject, talk to the baby’s pediatrician. He is the most suitable professional to remedy.
