Deserve is the word of your moment in life. Couscous da Irina was born with the aim of being the uterus of a project to include franchises throughout Brazil. It is in this literally pink universe, which she idealized, that is the DNA of the business. “I have had a restaurant consultancy company since 2017,” she says. “I studied gastronomy and earned a postgraduate degree in process management, I already franchised for other people before opening my restaurant.”

In 2017, when she entered the Master Chef competition, she saw there an opportunity to earn the money she would need to make her dreams come true, as a woman, entrepreneur and professional director. She grew up watching her grandmother cook, but she considers herself a “nerd ever since she was a little girl”. At 14 she was not dealing with pots, but with books. Her first job was in a thrift store. Today, at 34, she is preparing to launch her first book: “I’ve been writing poetry since I was little, it’s a very bloody, visceral universe,” she says. “It’s a book of stories that inspire recipes, but it can also be called a self-help exercise for women.”

Irina often asks female questions in her stories, which can be described as a daily collection of successes and losses. On Mondays you can let off steam about the vulnerabilities we are exposed to as women. On Tuesday, she can be all flirtatious at an outdoor market, causing trouble at the pastel stand. She is a woman who shamelessly displays her weaknesses, but she is not afraid of exposure. Nor the flow of changes that life imposes on us every day. At the same time, she realizes the importance of contemplation, of gaining more peace, more calm. “Incredibly, I’m in the midst of entrepreneurship, which isn’t easy, but I personally found this place of serenity,” she says as she offers me a pitcher of tea on a cold and rainy day in São Paulo.

Since the Master Chef, Irina has clarified her position on issues such as feminism and politics: “During the program I had to force myself a few times against women, I scolded xenophobic speeches, even though I was in the middle of a cooking reality show” . In this matter, you remain active on your digital platforms. At the same time, she learned to deal with the pains and loves of self-knowledge: “I like therapies, diving, I am the granddaughter of the natives and I have learned that when you accept pain, it lasts less,” she believes. Basically, she says that she is discovering the pleasures of receiving. She wants more exchange in relationships, be they personal or work: “I come from an origin of great scarcity in all respects, I think I have ended up getting used to this scenario of giving a lot to receive little”. To the point of classifying the act of taking care of oneself as something very recent. “Entrepreneurship is bothering me, I run out of time, I can’t keep up with the flow of parties and blogs,” she lists. “I can’t party anymore on Friday because the restaurant is full on Saturday, I can’t travel on weekends anymore … and even then I’m in this place as long as I need my care, mainly because I love to work.”

At the moment, Irina is still looking for a new home, to get more private space in a territory that doubles as a content recording studio for her social networks and also for those of her partner, Hugo Merchan. “I need more space at home, you know? To get home from work and have peace.” That’s right … But with so many things happening at the same time and all now, what would be the master chef’s favorite part in real life? “I’m not afraid to dive, as Clarice says, if you throw me off a cliff I fly, I love butterflies in my stomach and I believe that changes are always the best part of the journey.”
