3 things that interfere with the body’s absorption of nutrients

There is no point in maintaining a healthy diet if the body does not absorb nutrients properly, as the body’s use of food is the main factor in achieving results in diet.

Furthermore, food alone cannot compensate for all the damage caused by a lifestyle that overshadows health. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a routine wellness carewhich includes stimulating the way the body absorbs nutrients.

Nutritionist Dr. Ronan Araújo explains that some habits present in our daily life hinder the digestion process and, therefore, make it difficult for the body to absorb nutrients. He cites the most common:

1. Stress

“Excessive worries and constant nervousness, due to work and daily activities, can be nutrient thieves due to the discharge of cortisol that stress does to the brain. The excess of this hormone can cause various consequences in our organism “, warns the specialist.

In addition to stimulating the accumulation of body fat, the high level of cortisol can compromise the proper functioning of the intestine, an essential organ for the absorption of important nutrients. This can impair the action of vitamins and minerals in our body.

“Changes in eating habits and routines can help reduce excess cortisol and improve bowel functioning, thus helping to absorb nutrients better,” he points out.

2. Eating too fast

With the rush of routine, people increasingly ate shorter meals and, as a result, chewed less. However, poor chewing is an enemy of healthy diets, as it decreases nutrient absorption, explains Dr. Ronan.

Organize your routine as best you can to have more time to eat calmly. After all, meals are among the most important moments of the day.

3. Alcohol and cigarettes

Studies by the World Health Organization (WHO) show that over 45% of Brazilians drink some type of alcoholic beverage. However, alcohol is a substance considered harmful to the body if it is ingested frequently and in excess, even when it comes to nutrition. This is because the alcoholic beverage forms a kind of obstacles in the intestine, which can lead to a deficit in the absorption of Complex B vitamins.

Furthermore, alcohol consumption is strongly associated with smoking, as pointed out by the nutritionist. The molecules that make up the C vitamin they can be destroyed when they come into contact with nicotine, having their action reduced or even inhibited. The ideal, therefore, is to avoid use whenever possible.
