The so-called “American dream” sometimes comes true. At least for Verônica Oliveira, from Bahia: she went to the United States with R $ 500 and now earns 1.5 million dollars.

Winner of the Best of Framingham 2022 award, in the Food Supplier category of the Framingham Award program, Verônica was born on a farm in the hinterland of Bahia and had a difficult childhood.

“I grew up in the countryside with seven siblings, watching my mother wash clothes in the river. We have gone through difficult times, such as the lack of food and opportunities, but we have always had a lot of love and a desire to grow and reach, ”she recalls.

The move to the United States

In Belo Campo-BA, she studied nursing and worked for some years at the city hospital. After being fired, she decided to move to the United States in 2009, even though she didn’t speak English.

“I only had R $ 500 in my account, but I decided to take a risk. I paid for the ticket with my sister’s card and went, ”says she, who now lives in Massachusetts.

In America, Veronica worked as a cleaning lady for four years before deciding to start her own business. With just $ 30 of investment, she started the Bahian tapioca. The business has grown so much that it now earns a staggering $ 1.5 million.

Winning the Best of Framingham 2022 crowned the unique moment the Bahian is experiencing, as her business enters the list of companies contributing to the North American economy.

“The Bahian dressing changed my life. A movie has been playing since we got here, not knowing what our future and prospects would be like. But with a lot of effort and practice, we literally made it, ”she vibrates.

Ambitious, Veronica does not stop there and already dreams even bigger. “We still have a lot of work to do. My desire is to reach the entire American market ”, she concludes.
