Visitors get stuck at Shanghai Disney after Covid cases

The theme park has kept the rides running to keep people entertained while they wait for the test results

Visitors were trapped inside the Disneyland in Shanghai this Monday (31), after the Chinese authorities decreed an emergency confinement. People were prevented from leaving the site until they ran a Covid-19 test and received a negative result. Upon release, they will still have to carry out three tests in three consecutive days, during which they have been ordered to avoid collective activities.

Videos circulating on the social network Webo show visitors running towards the closed gates of the theme park in an attempt to avoid the “quarantine”. In return, the Disneyland kept the rides and other attractions running to allow visitors to be distracted while waiting for the test. The images show that the fireworks display also took place normally.

THE China still maintains a zero tolerance policy for coronavirus infections. As of Monday, China’s National Health Commission has reported 2,699 cases of the disease, including ten asymptomatic cases in Shanghaiwhich would lead to the unexpected lockdown.

It is not the first time that emergency lockdowns have trapped people in unusual places: the same has already happened in a branch of the Ikea furniture store in Shanghai on August 15.
