17 weeks of pregnancy: baby development

At 17 weeks pregnant, you’re almost halfway through your journey! Have you stopped to think about it? Did the weeks go by fast or slow for you? Even though it’s a bit stressful, because there are so many things to prepare until the day of the baby’s birth, you too can’t wait to meet him and hold him in your arms, right? There is emotional control!

17 weeks of pregnancy: baby development

Your baby is about 12cm long, which is about the size of a pomegranate. The baby’s eyes look forward instead of sideways, even if they are still closed. He is very close to the ears to position himself in the right place. Also, the cartilage that will become the skeleton begins to stiffen. He has a lot of skin and the appearance is wrinkled. That’s because you’re still 17 weeks pregnant and still have plenty of time for him to grow and gain weight. Gradually, he “occupies” all the space.

Ah, your child also already has very small nails. Don’t be alarmed if they are long when he is born. It really happens, often, and it’s normal. It’s even a little scary at first: how to cut such small nails, on such brittle little fingers, without injuring the child? But it’s not as difficult as it seems and you soon get used to it.

17 weeks pregnant: dream hair

You may have already noticed that your hair is shinier and fuller. If you haven’t noticed, pay attention. Take the opportunity to splurge, showing off your pretty strands around. Because of hormones, hair tends to grow longer. This results in more hair on the scalp at the same time, especially during the later months of pregnancy. The strands also tend to get oilier. All of this becomes more evident from the second quarter, which is the phase you’re in now.

Are you forgetful?

Not remembering what I was going to say or what I was looking for, losing my car keys, leaving my wallet at home… Being a little “out of breath” during pregnancy is normal, due to emotional and hormonal changes. The increase in progesterone in the body affects the area of the brain responsible for attention, making pregnant women feel distracted and airy – circumstances that usually last up to 40 days after giving birth. Plus, we have to consider the whirlwind of emotions that each stage of pregnancy brings, right?
