Little girl with leukemia asks Santa Claus to regrow her hair

In a letter of good wishes, a little patient is moved by waiting for Christmas to get her hair back after chemotherapy

Among the many requests that the little ones make to Santa Claus, some are more captivating and even exciting. This is the case of Macy, a four-year-old girl who has been undergoing treatment for lymphoblastic leukemia since the beginning of the year at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Following chemotherapy, the little girl started losing her hair and she believed in the magic of Christmas for her hair to grow back.

The request was explained in a letter written to Bom Velhinho as part of an action for pediatric patients who will spend Christmas in hospital. The campaign, called Redirected Letters to Santa, in Portuguese, is run by the Charity Children’s Hospital of Edinburgh and is calling for the help of the city’s residents to grant these children’s wishes. Macy then took the opportunity to forcefully ask for something she’s been wanting since her blonde locks started falling out.

“Her wish this year is for her hair to grow back long enough that I can put it back into a ponytail like mine,” her mother, Gillian, told the paper. Daily logπŸ‡§πŸ‡·

“For Christmas, I’d love to hair bows, a brush and may my hair grow back to look like mom’s”, ewrote the girl in the simple but emotional note

The woman also told the Scottish tabloid that Macy did not take advantage of the end-of-year holidays last year, as she was constantly ill without knowing the cause before the diagnosis. “He wasn’t in the mood to play with any toys”, reported. Now, despite her being hospitalized, her mother is grateful to the hospital staff for the kindness with which her daughter is treated. “It really makes our journey to the hospital a little bit easier and we are so grateful to everyone who has supported us during these very difficult times,” she said.

Pippa Johnston, director of Charity Hospital, reported that although this period which should be full of magic and laughter has many worries for patients and families, the action gives some liveliness back to the little ones. “We can’t take away their pain, but we can provide some happiness. Together with our friends, we work hard to ensure that no child or young person is left out of the joy of this holiday season.”
