The feature film, in which the singer worked as a producer, deals with Ludmila’s struggle with multiple sclerosis, a condition she says was caused by the virus.

“When the results came I had the same virus as Ludmila, early on. Today is no coincidence. diagnosis, she began to undergo adequate treatment and managed to contain the evolution of the pathogen.

What is the disease caused by the Epstein-Barr virus?

According to doctor Rubens Pereirainfectologist and professor of medicine at Unifran, the virus causes infectious mononucleosis, popularly known as the “kissing disease”.

The Ministry of Health informs that the pathology mainly affects individuals between 15 and 25 years of age, and its transmission occurs, in most cases, through the contact of oral secretions (saliva) between an infected person and a non-infected person.

However, the expert also says that there are other rare modes of transmission, such as through the transfusion of blood products.

“The diagnosis is made through a blood test, which is a serology against Epstein-Barr. This serology shows the creation of antibodies against the virus,” says the doctor Alessandro Cunhaan infectologist from Grupo Sabin.

What are the symptoms?

In some cases, infectious mononucleosis may be asymptomatic. However, according to Dr. Rubens Pereira.

“Its manifestations are varied, usually benign, ranging from a simple cold to a slightly longer fever accompanied by enlarged lymph nodes and spleen,” completes the physician Renato Grinbauminfectologist and professor of Medicine at the University of the City of São Paulo (Unicid).

How is the treatment done?

Treatment of the disease is supportive, which includes rest, hydration, and the use of medications to relieve symptoms. “To date, no specific antibiotics or antivirals are used”, underlines the Unifran professor.

In cases of airway obstruction, severe reduction in the number of platelets in the blood or haemolytic anemia, the Ministry of Health indicates that the use of corticosteroids may be useful.

Relationship with multiple sclerosis

Considered an inflammatory, autoimmune, and degenerative disease, multiple sclerosis involves the white and gray matter of the central nervous system.

It is characterized by demyelination of the myelin sheath, a lipid membrane that protects nerve cells, acting as a thermal insulator and playing an important role in communication between neurons.

According to Dr. Rubens Pereira, there are numerous studies that correlate the Herpesviridae family and the pathogenesis of this disease.

“Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, herpes virus type 6 and herpes virus type 7 are the most studied as a cause of the condition and would act as a trigger in genetically predisposed people,” Pereira begins.

“Therefore, the Epstein-Barr virus causes an increased risk of multiple sclerosis, but is unlikely to be solely responsible for its occurrence. It may contribute to the future development of the disease, but the incidence of this phenomenon is not yet well established ”, complete.
