Doubt resolution is important for those who do not fast at night
The end of the day allows for that feeling of relief, especially for those who work. Moment of relaxation that leaves someone free to “kick the curtain” in terms of food, that is, nothing prevents you from enjoying a snack with a cold drink. However, this doubt remains: does eating at night make you fat?
Answer
βIt will always depend on the context, taking into account issues such as which food you eat, how much you eat, whether or not there is an increase in energy requirements and the presence of any pathologies that contraindicate this habit. From a weight loss and weight control perspective, calories continue to have the same value regardless of the time of day, but attention must be paid to the quality of the food and its quantity,” says the the nutritionist and physical educator Bruno Cipriano in an exclusive interview with the sports lifeπ§π·

The cure is doubled for fatty dishes, i.e. meals harmful to the weight loss process. “One calorie-related issue that can hurt weight loss is the fact that at night we’re more likely to consume foods that are higher in calories, such as snacks and pizzas,” adds Bruno.
It should also be noted that everything varies from moment to moment. Much of what was common in the past is no longer valid in the present because there are people who work, study and exercise at night which literally transforms this scenario. This concept applies to the caloric part and Cipriano gives the example of the Banana fruit.
βCalorie-wise, it makes no difference whether you eat in the evening or in the morning. A banana will still have the same calories at night as it had before. However, a sweet banana pizza will add a lot of unnecessary calories,β he explains.
energy demand
Do you only find time at night to do your physical exercises? Okay. Your case is not unique because millions of people use this period to reconcile with their particular problems. Those who are active in training at the time create demand for energy. Then you can eat after “play”π§π·
βPeople who exercise at night create a higher energy requirement at that time. If we were to analyze it this way, it would make more sense to spread more calories into the dinner meal than the lunch, whether to provide energy for activity or to repair energy expended during nocturnal activity”, advises the nutritionist.
Restrictions
Dietary treatment must respect the patient’s condition. Anyone dealing with gastritis and reflux is banned from this habit of having “food time” and then sleeping. The orientation is to eat in the early evening.
“Diet therapy for some pathologies must be taken into consideration as individual tolerance of each patient. Pathologies such as gastritis and reflux contraindicate the habit of eating and going to bed immediately afterwards. Respecting the characteristics of each person, it makes sense to have the last meal a little earlier”, concludes Bruno Cipriano.
worldwide concern
Another aggravating factor for those who eat excessively at night is the “assault” on the refrigerator. Occasionally it doesn’t hurt, but if it becomes a habit there is danger. In this sense, the British private hospital London Clinic has already stated in research that this “flight” to the refrigerator is the nocturnal eating disorder and works thanks to moments of stress and tension.
Likewise, it is the type of disorder that affects a large part of the world’s population. The ABP (Brazilian Association of Psychiatry) estimated in September 2022 that more than 70 million people worldwide are affected by some eating disorder.
