“Baby Factory”: discover the surprising project of artificial wombs

Sounds like science fiction, but it’s not. The company presents to the world how human reproduction could happen in the near future

Perhaps you have already imagined – or read in some dystopia – what it would be like if humans were reproduced in the laboratory on a large scale. Try viewing: a large room filled with clear, oval containers connected to wires and tubes that provide the same environment, nutrients, and conditions as a normal pregnancy, as inside the woman’s body. Did you find it scary? Know that this is not just futuristic series material anymore. EctoLife, company of the biotechnologist and science communicator Hashem al-Ghaili, presented to the world the project of first installation of artificial wombs🇧🇷

And if for you this “manufacturing of human beings” already has ethical production limits, it is also worth knowing that the company’s idea is allow, through an “elite package”, that future parents choose all the characteristics of the child, as if they had access to a “baby menu“. Eye color, hair color, height, intelligence… According to al-Ghaili, resources even make it possible to avoid the inheritance of genetic diseases.

“Powered entirely by renewable energy, EctoLife enables infertile couples to have a baby and be the child’s true biological parents. It’s the perfect solution for women who have had their uterus removed due to cancer or other complications. With EctoLife , premature births and caesarean sections will be a thing of the past“says the project presentation video – which sounds like science fiction.

awesome features

According to the company, this would also be a alternative for countries facing severe demographic decline, such as Japan, Bulgaria, South Korea and others. The planned facility features 75 highly equipped laboratories that can each house 400 growth pods – artificial wombs – designed to replicate the exact conditions that exist inside the womb.

“A single building can incubate up to 30,000 laboratory-raised children a year. EctoLife allows your baby to develop in an infection-free environment. (…) Each capsule is equipped with sensors to monitor the baby’s vital signs, including heart rate, temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation”, reads the narration of the disclosure video.

The features don’t stop there. All this information could be sent to parents in real time through an application, which also offers live, high-resolution images of the baby inside the capsule., as well as a time-lapse of the baby’s development. There’s more: the speakers installed inside the capsules allow family members to talk to the child or even choose playlists for him to listen to.

Could pregnancy become obsolete?

At the time of “birth”, it would be enough to empty the amniotic fluid capsule and open it. Ready. Before taking the baby home, a paternity test ensures that there have been no mistakes. But if you think that raising the child in the factory might be inconvenient, the company also offers the possibility of “managing” it in the machines at home, since it requires little electricity. Speaking of which, the company guarantees that there is no reason to worry about the possibility of a power outage.

“Every feature mentioned is 100% based on science and has already been achieved by scientists and engineers,” al-Ghaili told the British. Subway 🇧🇷 🇧🇷In terms of deadlines, a lot depends on ethical guidelines. Currently research on human embryos is not permitted beyond 14 days. After this period, the embryos must be destroyed for ethical reasons. If these restrictions are eased, I give 10 to 15 years for EctoLife to become widely used everywhere”the biotechnologist said.
