Other blood tests are under development in other parts of the world or are awaiting marketing approval. “Simple, affordable, noninvasive, and easily accessible diagnostic tools are urgently needed” to improve early detection of Alzheimer’s, says the US-based Alzheimer’s Association. In the future, blood tests “will very likely revolutionize the diagnostic process for Alzheimer’s and all dementias,” according to the organization.
Alzheimer’s disease remains incurable to this day, but in November, additional clinical data confirmed the potential of a new drug, lecanemab, to significantly delay the cognitive decline of patients treated for 18 months.
