10 new Christmas movies that will put you in the holiday spirit

We understand that you can’t walk away from “Irony of Fate” or “Real Love” and you won’t even run away. But if you want something new and very festive, then this list will come in handy.

Every year new stories hit the screens, but in this variety you don’t often see a truly worthy movie. The classics, of course, will always come to the rescue. Someone will rejoice in the New Year watching Love Actually or Yolok, someone will watch all parts of Harry Potter, and someone will turn on The Irony of Fate for the hundredth time. But still, sometimes you want to update your “playlist”, and streaming services add new stories to the piggy bank every year to help us out. Something to have fun on this holiday, says blogger Nadezhda Frolova.

1. “A Boy Named Christmas”

A Netflix movie directed by Gil Kenan. The film is based on the book of the same name by British writer Matt Haig.

Nicholas is a little boy, he lives in snowy Finland and one day, in the company of a stubborn deer and a little mouse, he sets off on an unusual journey in search of his father. He disappeared in an attempt to find the elven village of Elfheim, which is said to be a place of joy and entertainment. Get into the Christmas spirit with this touching reimagining of Santa’s origins.

2. “Zoe’s Extraordinary Christmas”

A Christmas special from Zoe’s Extraordinary Playlist, which premiered in January 2020 on NBC. Zoe one day begins to hear people’s thoughts, but in the form of large-scale musical numbers, about which her life turns into a musical. The long-awaited sequel was not meant to be – the series was closed, but the director took pity on the pleading fans, and now Zoe returns to the screens in a feature film with a Christmas accent. The action takes place immediately after the events that ended the show’s second season. Zoe is going to celebrate her first Christmas without her father, so she does her best to create a festive atmosphere and prepare everything for the holidays.

3. Silent Night

An original Christmas horror comedy starring Jojo Rabbit’s Keira Knightley and Roman Griffin Davis.

Nell and Simon have invited their closest friends to join their family for Christmas dinner at their ideal home. When they reunite, everything seems to be fine, but outside the house, a veritable apocalypse ensues. Not everyone will be able to survive the holidays…

4. “I am Santa Claus”

The Italian film “I am Santa Claus” is a story of friendship and redemption. Released from prison, Ettore, rejected by his family, returns to theft. Ettore breaks into the house of a gentleman named Nicola. As you can guess from his name, he will be Santa Claus. Nicola decides Ettore deserves a second chance and offers to help prepare for the coming Christmas with a roof over his head.

5. “The elusive scent of love”

Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries) as Natalie, a young journalist who writes about bad dates. It is thanks to her failures in her personal life that she earns her living. And then one day on Tinder, Natalie meets the guy of her dreams – Josh. Everything is so perfect, it’s almost too good. However, Natalie hasn’t met Josh yet, so she decides to surprise her and come see him for Christmas. But instead of a handsome man with a photo in the application, a small and modest guy will come to meet her, who did not expect his deceit to be revealed in this way. Frustrated, Natalie walks to the nearest bar and sees the same guy in the photo there… Now her goal is to get the attention of the guy she fell in love with online.

6. “8-Bit Christmas”

A nostalgic comedy about the pre-Christmas adventures of a 10-year-old boy from the 80s who seeks to get his hands on Nintendo’s latest game system for Christmas. Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) will play the adult version of this kid, telling his daughter the story of the present he wanted the most, but without a “Christmas miracle” there was no chance of get a Nintendo.

7. “Christmas Castle”

A romantic Christmas comedy about the famous writer Sophie Brown, who, escaping the annoying journalists, sets out on a journey to Scotland to find the castle of her grandfather’s stories, and finds her love there. But first she finds a castle, and in it – Duke Miles, who is not very friendly with the newcomer. Sophie decides to buy the castle, but the Duke does his best to prevent her intention. However, you yourself already guess how it all ends …

8. Olaf Presents

The New Year was not without animated films either: for example, the “monologues” of the beloved hero from Frozen. Olaf narrates classic cartoons in his own way – The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Moana, Aladdin and Rapunzel. Sometimes forest props and Sven deer come to his aid. The cartoon takes a fresh look at Disney classics.

9. “In place of the princess – 3: an affair with a star”

This is the third film about Princess Margaret and her lookalikes as Vanessa Hudgens. This time the plot is tied to the theft of a priceless Christmas artifact.

In the first film, a story in the spirit of “The Prince and the Pauper” was played – the princess meets Stacy in the bakery, who looks like two drops of water like her, and offers to change places. In the second part, the third double joined the plot – the impudent Fiona, also played by Vanessa. If you haven’t seen a single part, add three new Christmas movies to your piggy bank at the same time.

10. “Yolki 9”

The ninth part of the popular franchise. A few hours before the holidays, everyone is impatiently hoping for a miracle. The whole village of Glukharevo is preparing to welcome a foreign movie star in style. In Tyumen, a housewife and a future blogger must win a bet with her husband. In Yekaterinburg, a role-player in love is torn between family happiness and epic adventures. In St. Petersburg, the girl, with the long-awaited marriage proposal, discovers that her fiancé was a fraudster. As always, the fates of the heroes will unexpectedly intertwine and each will receive their own share of New Year’s magic.
