Did you go overboard at the end of year parties? Find out how to do a detox

Family and friends gathered, a rich table and plenty of alcoholic beverages are the hallmarks of the end-of-year celebrations. In this scenario, it is common for us to eat and drink more than normal which leads to the feeling of a bloated body, sluggish organism and increased hunger. However, it is possible to reverse these discomforts with a detox.

For Oba Hortifruti’s nutritionist, Renata Guirau, there is no miraculous detox, nor foods that instantly purify the body. “The term detoxification means eliminating the impurities that the body accumulates and this is mainly done by some organs, such as our liver and our kidneys, regardless of the composition of the food. So what we can do is support our organs, reducing the consumption of heavy foods that make digestion difficult,” he explains.

Renata advises that after periods of excess, it is interesting to invest in diuretic foods, such as vegetables, fruit and liquids in general, especially tea, such as ginger, green tea and white tea. “All of this helps our kidneys and livers act faster,” she points out.

In addition to fatty foods, alcoholic beverages also deserve special attention. The expert says that the ideal is to consume them in moderation and a little at a time, alternating the intake of water and food. But, in case of exaggeration, the advice is to rest the body and focus on hydration, betting on natural juices, coconut water and water.

4 fruits to help with detoxification

The nutritionist recommends the consumption of four fruits to accelerate the detoxification of the body:

lychees: rich in vitamin C, lychee helps strengthen the immune system and fight free radicals. It also contains calcium, which acts on bone and muscle health; potassium, which has action in blood pressure control; and anthocyanins, which have antioxidant action.

Prune: this is an excellent source of fiber, which acts laxatively and contains vitamin K, important for bone health and coagulation, as well as antioxidant components, which act directly on skin health.

ruby grapes: the fruit has vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system. It is also an excellent source of resveratrol, an antioxidant that prevents cardiovascular disease.

Pineapple: just like grapes, pineapple also contains vitamin C. It also contains bromelain, a natural enzyme that helps good digestion, especially of proteins.

How to get your metabolism in order

The specialist also teaches some tricks that can help detoxify and rebalance the body. To look:

  • Drink lots of water (enough to make your urine very clear);
  • Eat 2 to 3 fruits a day;
  • Consume raw vegetables in larger quantities for lunch and dinner;
  • Prefer lean sources of protein, such as roasted or cooked meats, with no skin or apparent fat;
  • Avoid the consumption of foods containing sugar, artificial colors and/or sweeteners;
  • Avoid all types of processed foods, such as sausages, canned foods, ready-to-eat dressings, frozen meals, and fast foods.
