The municipal market was a stronghold of food products and today houses successful establishments in the gastronomic scene.
Foodie. This is the word that best defines the market de Pinheiros, which operates today in Rua Pedro Cristi, number 89, near Largo da Batata. For many years the establishment operated on the wide Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Lima but had to change its address when the city of São Paulo started to grow.
Whoever enters the factory is immediately faced with a large two-story warehouse. On the ground floor, fruit stalls display delicacies such as bananas, papayas, pineapples and other delicacies that convey Brazil in its culinary essence.
Also noteworthy are the stalls selling natural products and dairy products, such as Luvizari, which has been present in the establishment since the old Faria Lima market.
The flagships of the box are the cheeses, both fresh and seasoned with balanced acidity and slightly sweetened. Canned olives, garlic, tomatoes and even corn are not far behind.
History of the Pine Market
Formerly called “Capira Market”, the place was founded in 1910 and was the stronghold of food producers who lived in all four corners of the state and offered the best of their crops.
Time passed and in the year 2014 a revitalization took place which resulted in the mmarket de Pinheiros a series of gastronomic events with the most varied dishes. Even today these parties are held in the local premises and, thanks to them, the institution has taken over the “gourmet”.
From there, establishments such as Mocotó Café, by the chef Rodrigo Oliveirathe Napoli Centrale pizzeria, one of the best pizzerias in São Paulo, and the Expresso Pinheiros restaurant, an informal self-service.
What to eat at the Pinheiros market
Napoli Centrale was born in 2016 within the Pinheiros market with the proposal to eat typical Neapolitan food Pizza With the hands.
According to chef Marcos Livi, the advantage of being in the municipal market is to democratize the Neapolitan pizza culture, since the house opens for lunch, from 11am to 5pm.
In addition to the pizzas, the restaurant offers the filling, the traditional fried pizza and the wallet, a kind of stuffed pasta.
The highlights of the menu are the pizza margherita with lots of melted cheese and basil (R$ 37) and the burrata di Parma (R$ 43), with a balanced flavor that contrasts with the Sicilian lemon zest placed on top after the time in the oven .
Another great house order is the special khachapuri, which has fresh mozzarella, free-range egg yolk, and truffle oil (R$49).
Mocotó Café follows an informal proposal and presents classics from calf’s foot jellylike the baião de dois and the famous tapioca dadinhos, crunchy and hot.
For those who can’t do without a sweet treat, the top of the house is the cane sugar ice cream with catuaba syrup.
