All the actors who played Fandorin in the cinema – who best entered the image of the luckiest detective?

All the actors who played Fandorin in the cinema – who best entered the image of the luckiest detective?

Fans of detective stories about Detective Fandorin are eagerly awaiting the release of the next film adaptation of the first book about the adventures of Erast Petrovich. This refined dandy always wins the day, is able to solve the most enigmatic crime and maintains the same Buddhist serenity. Of course, the public is eager to enjoy the game of young Vlad Tiron, who has become Fandorin in the new series based on the Azazel novel. We remind you with whom it will be compared.

“He was a very handsome young man, with black hair (of which he was secretly proud) and blue eyes (alas, it would be better also black), rather tall, with white skin and a damn indestructible blush on his cheeks .”: this is how the writer Boris Akunin (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) first describes his main character.

During the development of the plot of the books, Fandorin changed: he began to stutter and acquired gray temples and a thin mustache. However, the creators of detective film adaptations ignored the details of the image of the literary detective beloved by many: it can be said that none of the Fandorins on the screen matched the portrait in the books! And with the reconstruction of the image of Erast Petrovich, each of the performers of the role coped in their own way.

Ilya Noskov – “Azazel”2002

The honor of becoming the first Fandorin of Russian cinema in the four-part film adaptation of the novel Azazel, the first in the cycle about the adventures of Erast Petrovich, goes to Ilya Noskov. The series was filmed by Alexander Adabashyan himself, author of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, adored by millions, starring Vasily Livanov.

Noskov was young, fresh and, in fact, ruddy, but the detective’s fans were unhappy with the casting of the protagonist. Moreover, the role, which promised to serve as a career stepping stone for the young actor, did not become a breakthrough. Azazel was to repeat the success of Sherlock Holmes, but, alas, the series was soon forgotten.

Egor Beroev – “Turkish bet”2005

The black-eyed, dark-skinned Beroev is not at all like the pale, thin Fandorin! But the film, directed by Janik Fayziev, turned out to be very successful: fascinating, brilliant, full of Ottoman flavor and, above all, equipped with a scenario that changed the plot to captivate those who read the book. Beroev runs, jumps, fights and falls in love – his Fandorin is so full of blood, romantic and cheerful that it has never been in Akounin’s novels.

Oleg Menshikov – State Councilor, 2005

It was simply a stellar year for Erast Fandorin – a film by Philip Yankovsky with Oleg Menshikov in the lead role was also released. Fandorines in stock! The State Councilor clearly followed the literary source, and Fandorin Menshikov, cold, refined and self-aware, succeeded perfectly. Plus, the first-time on-screen sleuth finally got his signature mustache (although everyone in State Counselor has a mustache without exception).

Vladislav Tiron – “Fandorin. Azazel, 2023

Restart! Azazel is re-released as a TV series, but the book was only a starting point: the action time was moved to the 21st century and characters appeared in the plot that weren’t in the novel. . Director Nurbek Egen called Vladislav Tiron, the young sensational star “trigger”, for the lead role. Vlad does not look like the Fandorin book at all (the young actor, by the way, is often compared to young Igor Kostolevsky). But it seems that’s exactly what the creators of the new series are trying to achieve, not wanting to get stuck in the trappings of literary source boundaries.

Bonus: Theatrical Fandorins – Pyotr Krasilov and Mikhail Shklovsky

The room “Erast Fandorin” directed by Alexei Borodin has been staged at the RAMT in Moscow since 2002! The production has two actors: the first Fandorin was actor Pyotr Krasilov, well known to viewers of the series, and later Mikhail Shklovsky, the son of the famous Soviet actor Oleg Shklovsky, became his “substitute”. How do you like these Fandorins?

The best Fandorin…

Ilya Noskov

Egor Beroev

Oleg Menshikov

Vlad Tiron

I don’t like anyone in the cinema, I vote for the theater

Waiting for the perfect performer
