Sleep tourists pay from BRL 1,000 for a good night’s sleep

The so-called sleep tourism is not yet widespread in Brazil, but there is already a tendency to look for quiet places

spa hotel to sleep

The frenzy of modern life has created a new type of tourist looking for good sleeping options. No hustle and bustle, no noise, no uneducated people with loudspeakers on the beach: this type of tourist really pays to feel comfortable and sleep well.

Places that offer good options for this type of traveler aren’t cheap, but they do offer on-call specialists, special food, special therapies, and lots of comfort for a good night’s sleep.

With an eye on this market, Swedish brand Hästens, which produces extremely luxurious bedding, has created the world’s first Sleep Spa Hotel in Portugal. The restaurant has a library with more than a thousand books and everything has been designed for the absolute rest of the customers.

With daily rates starting at €500 (R$2,800) and with mostly American and Brazilian guests, “l’hotel do sono” has just 15 rooms, all with goose-down pillows and beds made by artisans with only natural materials, including horsehair, which absorbs sweat.

“It’s like sleeping on clouds,” Sonia Felgut, the hotel’s marketing director, told Globo. “We also provide videos with a sleep specialist explaining the best posture for sleeping, we offer light meals and, in the rooms, instead of coffee, relaxing chamomile and ginger teas”.

Sleep peacefully on the islands

In chaotic London, the Zedwell hotel stands out, which favors the quality of sleep for the guest, therefore the rooms do not have any type of electronic device. Brown’s Hotel offers special packages for those who just want to unwind, including a lavender silk sleep mask, a special treatment at the spa, and a list of relaxing herbal teas.

Anantara Kihava

Standing out on the heavenly Maldives islands in the Indian Ocean is Anantara Kihavah, which has a sleep specialist who tests the local resources for perfect sleep. In addition, the hotel offers yoga sessions, breathing exercises, intravenous infusion of supplements, tea service and baths with relaxing aromas.

“People used to associate travel with big meals and other sleep-sacrificing activities. But recently, there has been a shift in our collective consciousness toward wellness,” Rebecca Robbins, co-author of the book Sleep for Success!, said in an interview with CNN.

Six senses Laamu

Also in the Maldives, the Six Senses Laamu hotel has a comprehensive sleep monitoring program, which includes a personal triner, holistic massage and nutritional guidance. The daily rate can reach USD 2,200 (R$11,300) per person.

Zoetry Agua Punta Cana

In the Dominican Republic there is Zoetry Agua Punta Cana, with daily rates of R$ 2,500, which values nature, the space between the trees and does not accept children. In fact, you can’t even talk loud there.

Hotels like Sea Water (in Marsala, Italy) and Rosewood Mayakoba (Playa del Carmen, Mexico) also have similar programs, where the guest’s sleep is more important than any other property feature.

Looking for tranquility in Brazil

In Brazil, where the lack of education about loud music on the beach still prevails, there are already initiatives for those seeking quality rest on holiday or in their free time.

Quiet Parks International, an organization that lists quiet places around the world, lists the Pantanal, Jaú National Park and Atol das Rocas as havens of silence in Brazil.

Rosewood Mayakoba

Among the hotels, the Atiaia Spa stands out, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. With daily rates starting at R$1,000, it also takes care of harmonizing the guest’s energy field by relaxing the body and promoting sleep.

“We have noticed the trend of sleep tourism outside Brazil and we wanted to bring this proposal to our hotel. Sleeping well is an essential habit to be able to live a full life and carry out our daily functions with more disposition and energy. We want to make a difference in people’s daily lives,” Mariana Pedrosa, head of network marketing, told Globo.
