8 mistakes we make in the bathroom

We perform routine tasks like washing our hands and brushing our teeth on autopilot, without thinking about the details. Habit is a trick of nature: doing something mechanically saves energy for more important things. But it also does us a disservice when we are found to be doing something wrong. For example, many people make these eight mistakes when using the bathroom and toilet. And it is worth trying to change your habits – for health reasons.

  1. Do not close the toilet lid when flushing. 60% of survey participants admitted they don’t have this important hygiene habit. Meanwhile, if the lid is left open, drops of toilet water, bacteria and microscopic particles of what we actually rinse are scattered in all directions under the pressure of the water and can fly even at six meters from the toilets (although not everyone, of course, does these mansions). This topic was first raised in a study in 1975, and since then this fact has been confirmed more than once. Bacteria scattered throughout the bathroom can live quite a long time – so it pays to get into the good habit of lowering the lid.
  2. We keep the toothbrush in the first aid kit. Someone thinks this is a tricky way to keep the brush away from toilet bacteria (especially if the bathroom is shared). But there is a minus here: in a closed cabinet, the brush does not dry properly, and a favorable environment for the growth of bacteria is created there. Therefore, it is better to store the brush only in a glass.
  3. We leave cosmetics and makeup brushes on the mirror. Anything you put on your face should be kept away from toilet germs. Plus, bathroom humidity provides a good life for germs in cosmetic jars. By the way, do not forget to change cosmetics, brushes, sponges and applicators more often.
  4. We use the washcloth too long. Bacteria love fluffy washcloths: sponge cells and nets designed to make soap suds, for germs – like houses. So change your washcloth more often.
  5. We hang wet towels on hooks. Bath towels can be washed after every third use – but only if you dry them flat on a heated towel rack. If you hang a towel on a hook, moisture and soap scum stay in the folds, where ubiquitous bacteria and even mold have a good time.
  6. Forgetting to ventilate the bathroom. If there is no window and there is no built-in vent fan, at least open the door wide open after taking a shower or bath.
  7. I don’t wash my shower curtain. Polls have shown that 42% of the population do not pay attention to this small but important detail. If you don’t feel like hand washing the curtain, you can spin it in the machine on the delicate wash cycle. To prevent mildew, after showering, hold the shower curtain down and do not move it sideways like an accordion until it dries.
  8. We use cell phones in the bathroom. If you’re texting or playing games on your phone while sitting on the toilet, think about it: everything you touch in that room contains a certain amount of toilet bacteria and fecal microparticles, and ends up on your phone. You’ll wash your hands later, but you’re unlikely to sanitize your phone. And then they call you – and you put it on your face.
