However, according to physical education professional Eduardo Netto, exercise during pregnancy can be a great stimulus for a healthier and longer-lasting lifestyle.

“Patients who regularly engage in physical activity they are less likely to develop mood disorders, because there is release of neurotransmitters, endorphins, serotonin at their maximum and constant level. This is very beneficial for the woman and the child.”

Healthy pregnancy and physical activity

Currently, some gyms offer spaces that allow pregnant women to exercise in different ways, through a dance class, swimming and water aerobics or weight training.

This allowed 29-year-old Thayane Dutra to have a very peaceful pregnancy. She says she made the most of this period while continuing to do what she loved most: working out.

“I have always practiced physical activity, it would be very difficult to stop for nine months. From the beginning I felt the need to exercise. Even at the end of the pregnancy, when the tiredness hit me the hardest, I disciplined myself to go to the gym” , he said.

As explained by the physical educator, an exercise routine during pregnancy can bring many benefits to mom and baby. “Staying active during pregnancy helps maintain weight, prevent gestational diabetes and high blood pressure,” she points out.

“There’s a lower risk of postpartum depression and pre-eclampsia, reducing the risk of urinary incontinence and pelvic floppiness, as well as preparing women for childbirth,” she says.

But, to get all these benefits, it is also important that the pregnant woman takes some precautions not to harm the pregnancy. Below, the expert has listed some key points for training safely:

  • Exercise three to four times a week for 20-30 minutes;
  • Find a physical educator for better monitoring,
  • Avoid very hot places and intense physical activities that raise body temperature a lot.
