The co-founder of PriestmanGoode made a tutorial on how to create a functional and sustainable smartphone holder from an egg carton
Whether you want to make a video call or watch your favorite series, a cell phone holder can be extremely useful. And you don’t have to spend money on it!
the draftsman Paul Priestmanco-founder of PriestmanGoode, shared a trick to support smartphones with an egg carton and scissors in less than two minutes.
The first prototype was a wine box. He then made several versions, refining the design at each stage to ensure the item met a number of requirements, including the hands-free useoffer a good angle AND suitable for both portrait and landscape orientation.

“My goal was to create something people could make in their own homes, without tools and with everyday materials,” Priestman said. “Eventually, I got to the egg carton and found the perfect material.”
Step by step

As Priestman explains in the video, take a tray of eggs and cut off the lid. Unwrap the cover, then cut around the bottom of the egg carton, giving the area where the phone will sit a little more height to ensure enough grip.
Tidy it up by trimming all the rough edges, then the phone can be placed inside the case, held in place by the scalloped edges and cone-shaped bumps in the center.

An improved version of the stand allows you to charge your phone while in use. To do this, just cut the lid too, turn it upside down and glue it to the other, and drill a hole in the base for the cable to pass through.
