Lisa Manobal, known professionally as LISA, said her BLACKPINK bandmates Jennie, Rose and Jisoo continue to text and support one another even while pursuing separate solo careers. She made the comments to E! News on Sept. 11, 2026, at the world premiere of her documentary "Always LaLisa" during the Toronto International Film Festival, one of the world's largest annual film festivals, held each September in Toronto, Canada.
"They're like my sisters," LISA said. "They're like my family. And of course, even though we are doing all solo stuff, we still text each other."
She added that her bandmates had already reached out about the documentary despite their busy schedules. "And even though 'Always LaLisa' is gonna be out soon," she said, "they texted me, and they're like, 'Oh, can't wait to watch it!'"
What to Expect From Always LaLisa
Asked what fans can expect from the film, which chronicles her rise to stardom, LISA said it would offer an inside look at her process. "They [get] to see all the behind the scenes, like how I work," she said. "I hope they enjoy it."
BLACKPINK's Rise
LISA, Rose, Jennie and Jisoo make up BLACKPINK, the K-pop group formed under South Korean talent agency and record label YG Entertainment. The group released its debut album, "THE ALBUM," in October 2020 and has since built one of the largest fan bases in K-pop, known as Blinks.
Rose has previously explained the origin of the group's name during an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," saying the members felt they embodied two contrasting sides. "We're very girly but at the same time we're very savage too," she said. "We have a song called 'Pretty Savage' and it kind of goes with 'black pink' and so we thought it described us the best."
LISA's Legal Name Change
LISA, who was born Pranpriya Manobal, recently revealed that she legally changed her first name to Lalisa when she was 13. The name translates to "one who is praised" in her native Thai. She later shortened it professionally to LISA. The singer, now 29, is known for the single "As If It's Your Last" and for acting in the HBO series "The White Lotus."
In an interview with Vanity Fair published June 23, 2026, LISA said the original name change came at the suggestion of a fortune teller she visited after auditioning to join YG Entertainment. "I don't know about the culture here," she told the magazine, "but in Thailand, it's fun to go see a fortune teller."
She said the fortune teller suggested she adopt a more auspicious name to help her future, and she agreed without hesitation. "You know what? I'll do anything," she recalled telling the woman.
LISA told E! News the name still feels true to who she is today. "It's just me from the start," she said. "I feel like I'm always Lalisa from the start."
