Spanish singer Lucas González has landed in Madrid following complex nasal reconstruction surgery in Turkey to resolve nearly two years of medical complications.
González arrived at the airport on Tuesday, September 1, alongside his wife, María José, wearing a black face mask branded with his band name to cover his face.
Speaking to journalists gathered at the airport, including reporters from the television show El verano se mueve, the musician expressed gratitude for the public support while describing the prolonged surgical ordeal as a nightmare. He said he was very pleased with the initial results of the procedure, though he noted that five months would be required before the final physical outcome could be fully seen.
González explained that his nose remains swollen and that he is currently wearing internal retainers while the cartilage settles into its proper position. Despite the ongoing recovery process and swelling, the singer remarked that he believes he looks decent.
Exclusive photograph of recovery
Details of his updated appearance first emerged on Monday, August 31, when the Spanish television program Y ahora Sonsoles broadcast an exclusive photograph of the artist. The image, taken on August 29 at a restaurant in Turkey, showed the Cádiz-born vocalist dining with his wife 12 days after undergoing surgery.
According to the television program, the image revealed a completely reconstructed cartilage bridge and two even nostrils, although postoperative surgical gauze was still visible across his face.
González is widely recognized across Spain as one half of the popular musical duo Andy y Lucas, which he formed alongside childhood friend Andy Morales in Cádiz. The Andalusian pop group achieved widespread commercial success throughout the 2000s across the Spanish-speaking world, building a massive fanbase with hit records and extensive touring schedules.
Medical transfer to Turkey
The decision to travel abroad came after initial plans for treatment in Spain were modified due to the technical difficulty of the reconstruction. According to reporting by Y ahora Sonsoles, González was originally scheduled to undergo the operation in Barcelona under the care of two physicians.
However, due to the intricate nature of the complete nasal cartilage reconstruction, doctors opted to refer the case to a specialized surgeon in Turkey equipped to handle the delicate procedure. Turkey, and particularly Istanbul, has grown into a major international hub for specialized cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
Addressing rumors regarding the financial expense of the operation, González stated that a sum of 6,000 euros would not even cover a bottle of water for a procedure of this magnitude. He added that the public could not imagine the actual cost of the treatment, emphasizing that an individual will do whatever is necessary when it comes to personal health.
The operation follows nearly two years of ongoing physical complications for the singer, who had previously characterized the decision to undergo total nasal reconstruction as a deeply personal matter. He will now continue his multi-month recovery period at home in Spain, with full healing expected over the coming five months.
