Macarena García has signed a new contract with Atresmedia to lead "Crímenes en España," one of the Spanish broadcaster's major upcoming fiction projects, produced by Suma Content, the production company run by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, the filmmaking duo known as Los Javis.
The project marks another professional reunion between García and her brother, Ambrossi, with whom she has worked on some of the most important productions of her career.
What the new series is about
"Crímenes en España" was created by María Bastarós and directed by Claudia Costafreda. The story follows a journalist who becomes trapped for more than a decade in a criminal investigation that ends up shaping both her personal and professional life.
Atresmedia chose García to lead the cast, a decision that reflects her standing as one of the most sought-after actresses among streaming platforms and production companies in recent years, built on a steady career that has largely avoided media overexposure.
A career built well before "Blancanieves"
García became widely known to audiences through "Blancanieves," the film that won her the Silver Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival and the Goya Award for best new actress in 2013. Her career, however, began well before that.
From a young age, she moved between theater, television and film, becoming one of the most versatile faces of her generation. Her credits include the television series "Amar en tiempos revueltos," "La otra mirada" and "La Mesías," as well as the films "La llamada" and "Casa en llamas," which together cemented her reputation as one of Spain's most recognized actresses.
Her long partnership with Javier Ambrossi
Beyond the awards, one thread has particularly defined García's career: her close professional relationship with her brother, Javier Ambrossi. Long before Los Javis became one of the most influential creative duos in Spanish television and film, García had already committed to projects the pair were developing from the ground up.
She starred in "La llamada," first on stage and later in its film adaptation, and years later worked with Ambrossi again on "La Mesías," one of the most acclaimed and talked-about series of recent years.
Ambrossi has said that his sister's support was decisive in his early career. In an interview, he recalled that after the success of "Blancanieves," García turned down other projects in order to focus on working with him and Calvo, a decision he considers essential to getting "La llamada" made.
If I hadn't had Maca as my sister, my career wouldn't have gone the way it did, Ambrossi said, crediting her with opening many doors for them.
