Sharing her excitement on social media, Carey offered fans a preview of the upcoming release and highlighted its pink finish coated in glitter. She explained that glitter was an essential addition to the pink vinyl records, creating a collectible item that reflects her signature glamorous aesthetic.

In a message celebrating the announcement, Carey said she was thrilled to share Glitter on vinyl after a quarter of a century. The release gives collectors and followers the opportunity to add the physical record to their music collections for the first time.

A Cult Soundtrack from 2001

Released in 2001, Glitter was conceived as the official soundtrack to the motion picture of the same name, which starred Carey in the lead role. The original project arrived during a particularly complicated stage in the singer's career and faced numerous difficulties during its initial launch.

Despite those early challenges, the album has gained a cult following over the past two decades. Musically, the soundtrack blended Carey's signature pop and R&B styles with sounds inspired by different decades and a strong influence from disco music.

The track listing featured singles such as Loverboy, If We, Never Too Far, and Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica). The album also included several musical collaborations that helped construct the soundscape of the film.

Reclaiming the Legacy of Glitter

Over the years, what began as one of the most questioned projects in Carey's discography has undergone a major reappraisal by her fanbase. Followers of the pop star have actively worked to champion the album and keep its musical legacy alive.

Carey has also embraced that era of her career in recent years, periodically revisiting and performing songs from the soundtrack. That ongoing recognition has helped reposition Glitter as a cherished chapter in her extensive music catalog.

The upcoming vinyl release adds a new chapter to the album's story 25 years after its debut. In addition to delivering the music on a long-awaited physical format, the pink glitter design visually restores one of the most distinctive visual eras of Carey's career.
