Defending the Castle Wardrobe

The stylish Parisian getaway comes after Jama was forced to defend the dramatic wardrobe choice she wore inside the Celebrity Traitors castle, following a wave of hilarious reactions from viewers online.

During the breakfast gathering in Friday's episode two of the new series, fans found themselves distracted by the Love Island host's striking outfit choice, which saw her wear a huge mustard feathered coat with extra-wide shoulders.

Viewers quickly turned to social media platform X to mock the statement look, comparing Jama to Sugar Puffs mascot The Honey Monster, as well as Sesame Street icon Big Bird, Dr. Seuss character The Lorax, and Bungle the bear from classic British children's show Rainbow.

Jama responded to the online commentary by hitting back on X with a humorous post reading: "It was cold as hell in the castle ok?" followed by a swan emoji.

Fans had previously posted an array of comedic comparisons online during and after the broadcast.

Among the comments shared on X were: "Traitor OR HONEY MONSTER," "Nice Honey Monster jacket Maya," and "Has Maya Jama skinned the Lorax???"

While getting ready for the event, Maya, who was dressed in a cosy white robe, hugged a number of designer heels as she unboxed her outfit options for the event

Other viewers questioned the outfit, writing: "What is Maya wearing? That jacket reminds me of Big Bird," "Maya jama’s wearing bungle from rainbow," and "what on earth is maya jama wearing??"

Further amusing reactions included: "I like Maya's jacket. I have always wondered what had happened to Bungle....", "Has Maya been genetically spliced with a Jim Henson puppet?" and "Did Maya Jama kill the Sugarpuff Monster and wear his carcass?"

Celebrity Traitors is filmed at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, where contestants compete in cold conditions while navigating secret alliances and murder assignments. The yellow mascots referenced by fans include The Honey Monster, who advertised Sugar Puffs cereal in the UK for decades, and Bungle, a prominent puppet character from ITV's long-running children's series Rainbow.

Murder and Betrayal at the Round Table

The viral fashion moment unfolded alongside high-stakes drama inside the castle, following the first elimination of the series during Thursday and Friday's episodes.

Former Today programme host Amol Rajan fell at the first hurdle when he was murdered by fellow Traitors Richard E Grant and Jama following a dramatic cliffhanger ending.

Viewers were left waiting for 24 hours to see whether Rajan or comedian and podcaster James Acaster would win the battle to be chosen by Grant and Jama to become the third Traitor on the show.

On Friday, viewers saw that Rajan lost out as host Claudia Winkleman was seen pacing back and forth before slamming the coffin shut on the broadcaster, confirming his exit as the first player eliminated from the game.

Reflecting on his swift departure, Rajan told the camera: "It's game over. It is gutting to be the first out, but James is a fantastic player, and people aren't going to suspect him, and they might suspect me."

The journalist continued: "Maybe I was a little bit foolish with Richard, but then again, I ended up in the chapel with a nearly 50/50 chance to join their club. But do you know what? Games are games. Just like there are winners, there has to be losers. I've loved the ride."

Rajan is best known as a senior BBC journalist, presenter of University Challenge, and former host of BBC Radio 4's Today programme. His opponent for the Traitor role, James Acaster, is an acclaimed stand-up comedian and co-host of the hit comedy podcast Off Menu.

Record Ratings for Celebrity Series

Meanwhile, veteran actor Richard E Grant made what has already been hailed as the biggest slip-up in Celebrity Traitors history after being chosen as one of Winkleman's original Traitors.

While mingling with Faithful contestant Joe Lycett in the lounge area, the comedian asked Grant directly: "What are you?"

Grant responded with a huge grin: "A Traitor."

Unsure what to believe following the shocking answer, Lycett said: "I think you've just done something that has never happened in the game... bold strategy."

The surprise confession left the rest of the celebrity contestants in a tailspin, with the Oscar-nominated actor acknowledging he will face intense pressure at the upcoming round table.

However, Acaster, who had been actively advancing the theory that Grant is a Traitor, will now be working alongside him as a fellow Traitor to throw the Faithfuls off the scent.

The launch of the second series proved to be a massive hit for the BBC, attracting record-breaking viewing numbers.

Thursday's launch episode peaked at just over nine million viewers and averaged 8.9 million viewers according to overnight figures, surpassing all previous premieres for The Traitors UK.

The audience marked an increase of almost three million viewers compared to the premiere of the first celebrity series, and was 2.5 million viewers higher than series four of the main show back in January.

Grant, known for starring roles in Withnail and I and Can You Ever Forgive Me?, is among 20 famous faces competing in the psychological reality game, which has become a flagship entertainment format for the BBC since its UK launch in 2022.
