Mckenna Grace Recreates Iconic Katniss Everdeen Dress

Actress Mckenna Grace has paid tribute to Jennifer Lawrence by recreating one of her most famous Hunger Games looks at an exhibition in Paris.

The 20-year-old star, who appears in the upcoming franchise installment The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, wore a voluminous white gown inspired by the wedding dress worn by Lawrence in the 2013 film Catching Fire.

Grace selected the dramatic outfit for the opening of the exhibition Elegance is Authority: The Story, Style, and Power of Panem, held on Tuesday, October 6, at the Musée Rodin in Paris, France. She attended the event alongside co-star Joseph Zada, who portrays a young Haymitch Abernathy in the upcoming feature film.

Katniss Everdeen Dress Recreated

The white dress worn by Grace featured a wide, layered skirt formed by multiple rows of ruffles and a metallic structure fitted over the bust. The design made direct reference to the iconic gown worn by Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist played by 36-year-old Lawrence in the second installment of the original film series.

In the 2013 storyline of Catching Fire, Katniss appeared in the elaborate white garment during a televised broadcast interview with Caesar Flickerman ahead of the Quarter Quell. During the interview, the dress transformed into a black gown inspired by a mockingjay, the bird that became the ultimate symbol of resistance against the Capitol across the fictional nation of Panem.

Lawrence starred as Katniss Everdeen across four blockbusters released between 2012 and 2015, establishing the franchise based on Suzanne Collins' bestselling dystopian books as a global pop culture phenomenon. Grace, an American actress known for her roles in Gifted, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and The Handmaid's Tale, now joins the franchise as a central figure in the new prequel.

Sunrise on the Reaping Cast and Lore

In Sunrise on the Reaping, Grace plays Maysilee Donner, a District 12 tribute participating in the 50th Hunger Games. The plot is set 24 years before the events of the first book, when Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark were selected for the games for the first time.

The period in the fictional timeline corresponds to the Second Quarter Quell, a milestone competition held every 25 years with special rules. For the 50th games, the Capitol summoned double the standard number of competitors, forcing 48 tributes from the 12 districts into the arena, including a young Haymitch Abernathy.

In the original series, Haymitch was introduced as the battle-hardened mentor played by Woody Harrelson who guided Katniss and Peeta. The upcoming film details his early experiences inside the arena alongside Donner and his fellow tributes.

Star-Studded Prequel Ensemble

Alongside Grace and Zada, the film features a high-profile ensemble playing younger versions of established franchise figures. Kieran Culkin stars as broadcast host Caesar Flickerman, originally portrayed by Stanley Tucci, while Maya Hawke plays tech-savvy tribute Wiress.

Elle Fanning joins the cast as District 12 escort Effie Trinket, taking over the role originated by Elizabeth Banks. Jesse Plemons portrays future Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison plays tribute Beetee, and Lili Taylor appears as District 4 victor Mags.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on November 19.
