'Minions & Monsters' brings the popular yellow characters back to the center of an adventure marked by humor, chaos, and monsters.

The third standalone feature film starring the small yellow characters arrived in movie theaters on July 1, 2026. During its theatrical run, the animated adventure generated around 499.8 million dollars in total global box office revenue, after opening to 159 million dollars worldwide during its first weekend.

In Spain, the film debuted at number one at the box office. It collected an estimated 2.3 million euros over its first three days and reached 3.6 million euros across its full opening weekend.

Digital release platforms and pricing

Following its theatrical success, Minions & Monsters is aiming to replicate its box office performance in home entertainment. The movie is currently available on three digital streaming platforms: Apple TV, Prime Video, and Rakuten TV. However, it is not yet included in any monthly subscription service, meaning viewers will have to wait longer to stream it as part of a subscription tier.

Viewers can rent the film for 14.99 euros or purchase it digitally for 17.99 euros across all three platforms. Technical specifications vary slightly depending on the storefront chosen.

On Apple TV, the movie is offered in 4K UHD with Dolby Vision visual enhancements. It features Dolby Atmos audio for English track playback and Dolby 5.1 sound in Spanish. On Prime Video and Rakuten TV, the release is provided in 4K UHD HDR with Dolby 5.1 audio in Spanish.

Plot details and monster chaos

The storyline of Minions & Monsters places the yellow protagonists in an unfamiliar scenario involving an unexpected threat from monsters. The narrative follows the Minions after they conquer Hollywood as movie stars, subsequently lose everything, and accidentally unleash monsters across the globe. The group must then unite to save the planet from the chaotic situation they created.

The standalone project is designed to be accessible to new viewers, allowing audiences to enjoy the story without needing to have watched previous entries in the franchise. The production combines action adventure with humor and recognizable characters.

The Minions originally debuted as the yellow henchmen in the Despicable Me franchise produced by Illumination Entertainment. Over the course of multiple feature films and spinoffs, the characters have developed into a major global animation property known for their slapstick comedy and fictional gibberish language.

Voice cast and creative team

French animator, voice actor, director, producer, and writer Pierre Coffin leads the vocal cast of Minions & Monsters. In addition to directing the feature, Coffin provides the voices for nearly all of the Minions in the film, including named characters James, Henry, Ed, and Dick.

The principal vocal ensemble also features Trey Parker as Goomi, Christoph Waltz as Max, Allison Janney as Olivia, and Jesse Eisenberg as Dort. Jeff Bridges contributes dual vocal roles as Frank and Elwood, alongside Zoey Deutch as Debbie and Bobby Moynihan as Phillips.

Behind the camera, the screenplay was written by Brian Lynch alongside Pierre Coffin. The original musical score was composed by John Powell, while Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan served as executive producers on the project.
