Netflix will premiere Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story on September 17, 2026, after Deadline published an exclusive report revealing the first images of the fourth season of the true crime anthology.

The story follows Lizzie Borden, one of the most famous criminal figures in United States history. According to the official synopsis, Lizzie is the repressed daughter of a wealthy New England family who is trapped alongside her rebellious maid in a house built on humiliation and cruelty, leading them to seek refuge in a fantasy of sex, power, and revenge.
Lizzie Borden gained notoriety after being accused of killing her father, Andrew Jackson Borden, and her stepmother, Abby Durfee Gray, with an axe on August 4, 1892. A Massachusetts jury declared her innocent because of a lack of conclusive evidence, leaving the double homicide officially unsolved.

The case has been adapted for film and television in prior productions. Lifetime produced the series The Lizzie Borden Chronicles in 2017, starring Christina Ricci as Lizzie Borden. In 2018, the feature film Lizzie was released, starring Chloë Sevigny as Lizzie and Kristen Stewart as a maid.
