Death on set: Alec Baldwin sued by parents and sister of Halyna Hutchins

The parents and sister of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins filed a lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and the film’s production team for “assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and loss of a partner.” The Wall Street Journal.

It is clear to us that all of our clients’ relationships have been damaged and that they will not be able to enjoy life as they did when their precious Halyna was alive.

Gloria Allred, an attorney representing the Hutchins family, said.

The lawyer also explained that the parents and sister were not part of the previous process or agreement and that they too want “accountability and justice, it’s that simple,” he said.

In January of this year, prosecutors in New Mexico, where the film was shot, also filed charges against Baldwin, but they also reached out to the gunsmith who handled the guns on set, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. The trial occurs as manslaughter (without intent to kill).

In October 2021, while filming the western action film “Rust,” Alec Baldwin, 64, accidentally fired a prop weapon during rehearsals for the tapings. The shot killed cameraman Halyna Hutchins and injured production manager Joel Souza.

Hutchins was shot in the abdomen area and airlifted to the University of New Mexico hospital in Albuquerque, where she held out for a few moments before dying. Souza was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent in Santa Fe. He received emergency treatment for his injuries and was discharged days later.

The cinematographer was considered a “rising star”, recognized by American cinematographer. His best known work of him was in the 2020 independent superhero film, ‘Archenemy’.
