Actress and director Kristen Stewart will play American writer, philosopher and political activist Susan Sontag in the upcoming biopic. According to Screen Daily, the new film, starring the Twilight star, will be directed by Kirsten Johnson, who wrote the documentary Dick Johnson Is Dead.
The biopic will be produced by Brouhaha Entertainment. The working title of the project is Sontag. The film will present four chapters of the turbulent life of an influential and controversial intellectual of the 20th century. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biography Sontag: Her Life by Ben Moser.

The famous writer died in 2004. Sontag is best known for her critical work Against Interpretation, About Photography, and Illness as Metaphor. Susan has traveled extensively and covered military conflicts from Vietnam to the Siege of Sarajevo. Filming will begin shortly in Berlin. They will then continue to California, New York, Paris and Sarajevo.
We are using Berlin as a starting point for the project and are documenting Kristen as head of the Berlin Festival Jury and discussing with her how she will become Sontag. It will be a drama, but with a documentary aspect. Kristen has a great storytelling approach and it’s so revealing that we want to document it,” said Gabrielle Tana, co-founder of Brouhaha Entertainment.
Recall that Kristen Stewart continues to try himself as a director. She will direct three music videos for Boygenius. And in December it became known that the actress will head the jury of the Berlin Film Festival.
