This data comes from Samba TV’s new service, revealed by expiration, which indicates that streamers looking to hook audiences with their latest television series have a limited window to do so. In reality, series may only be around two weeks long to attract viewers.
Data from 20 of the most popular TV series released in the second half of 2022 shows that 15 of them generated over 75% of their total 51-day audience in just the first 15 days of release. The one exception was Wandinhafrom Netflix.
The spin-off series of The Addams family it only attracted about 66% of its viewers in its first 15 days and had a longer shelf life than most. Wandinha also passed House of the Dragon by HBO to become the most-watched premiere of 2022 in the 40-day viewing window (House of the Dragon expired in the initial 15 day window).
According to Samba TV, the success of Wandinha it was driven, at least in part, by how the series went viral on social media, appealing to younger audiences. Capturing the attention of this audience could be the new key to long-term viewership when it comes to streaming series.
Furthermore Wandinha AND House of the DragonRyan Murphy’s productions, Dahmer: an American cannibal AND Welcome to the neighborhood, were among the most viewed premieres of the year within the first 15 days of release. All four outperformed the youngest.
