Spanish romantic series à la Normal People
In between the (very) many seasons of Élite, co-creator Carlos Montero has been working on a brand new romance series. Far from the flimsy and sleazy atmosphere of Las Enchinas High School Adventures, Every Time We Loved Each Other is more about the moving, tragic and passionately sentimental relationship between two kindred spirits.
Available on Netflix starting February 14, this eight-episode series is perfect for Valentine’s Day and all those who are in love this time around. Every Time We Loved Each Other tells the story of Irene and Julio’s more than twenty-year romance in the manner of ordinary people, which made fans of the series go crazy with the love story of Mariana and Connelly.
Given certain aspects of the aesthetic of the Irish series (especially the main actors with similar physiques), each time we fell in love is a sequence of different meetings, separations and reunions that marked the relationship between Irene and Julio. It all started in September 2003 when Irene moved to Madrid, ready to go out into the world with film courses at university to become a director.
She quickly makes friends, including Julio, a law student who would be perfect as the lead in her movies… and in her life. But it has other plans for her, especially since she is still in a relationship with Fernando, her childhood sweetheart.
Every Time We Loved Each Other is a gentle series that uses the codes of romantic comedy to transport them and entertain them while respecting its basic foundations. This new creation by Carlos Montero is a pleasant surprise, imbued with a gentle sadness and depth that shares the feelings of friendship and love that arise during these crucial years in the life of a young man searching for his place in the world.
The series can also rely on an enjoyable and engaging cast starring Georgina Amoros, best known for her role as Cayetana on Elite. This romantic comedy is also worth its delicious supporting roles with a colorful cast, namely Carlos Gonzalez (who plays Daa) and its main actor Franco Masini, with whom his partner has a good dose of chemistry.
The series Every Time We Loved Each Other is available on Netflix.
