‘AHS: NYC’ has come to an end on Disney + arousing a great disparity of opinions.
WATCH ‘AMERICAN HORROR STORY’ ON DISNEY+ NOW
Season 11 of ‘American Horror Story’, titled ‘NYC’, has already come to an end on Disney+. The ‘AHS’ saga, which throughout its long history has managed to position itself as one of the best current horror series, has ended what may be the season that has divided its audience the most, but that does not prevent it from season 12 of ‘American Horror Story’ is underway.
Some lament the lack of narrative coherence or empathetic characters, and there is no shortage of criticism for focusing the plot on white gay men. For all imaginable reasons and from all fronts. Yet others applaud the radical metaphors and hard-hitting realities regarding the HIV and AIDS crisis. The last episode (split into two parts) handles this quite brilliantly, redeeming the franchise from other disastrous endings in past seasons.
Regardless of what you may think, what we can all agree on is that this was without a doubt the happiest, sweatiest season of ‘American Horror Story’ yet. But how did the story end? Which characters survived and which did not? And the most important of all, who is big daddy
‘AHS: NYC’ Episodes 9 and 10 Explained (SPOILERS)
The final double chapter of one of the best horror series on Disney+ begins with Theo’s funeral, who stays behind like the ghosts of ‘A Christmas Carol’ to show Sam a glimpse of his future. And it doesn’t look very good. That future is full of disease and filthy hospitals. But the thing does not end there. Theo then travels to Sam’s past, where we see abuse and homophobia that he endured from other people, including his father.
This sequence ends with Sam running from Big Daddy on Fire Island, but it’s explained to him that he can’t run from the darkness… and he succumbs to it. At that moment, Sam unmasks Big Daddy, who is revealed to be a random blonde cutie.. Who is Big Daddy? we will answer it later.
The second half of the season finale begins with another macabre surprise: hannah is dead. Adam arrives just in time to see his body being carried out on a stretcher, and even though the police tell him he died of “natural causes,” anyone who’s seen a single episode of ‘AHS’ in its 11 seasons knows they can’t. be true.
After the tragic end of Patrick (yes patrick dies too), the final episode focuses on gino’s last days while managing his illness and trying to avoid Big Daddy. Gino fought to the end to protect the community from him with relentless activism, but ultimately ends up dying (with Big Daddy present).
Adam tries to give a speech at her funeral, but the emotion gets the better of him. And this is how he ends ‘AHS: NYC’… But, before that, Adam discovers that he could have infected Hannah of the disease from which he died, and consults with his doctor to try to save others.
Who is Big Daddy?
Throughout this two-episode finale, Big Daddy’s presence is constantly felt, even when he’s not on screen, but his true identity is never revealed. (although we can reveal the actor behind the mask: Matthew William Bishop)
This seems to confirm that he didn’t really exist at all, but Big Daddy was some kind of supernatural being, or maybe something even less tangible… a metaphor for AIDS, homophobia and death (or even a mix of all three).
That’s certainly implied in episode nine when Big Daddy chases Sam on the beach. Although it was probably just some kind of fever dream, the way she gives herself to him suggests that it’s actually Sam accepting his own deathwhich came in the form of an attractive blond young man.
Big Daddy also appeared again for numerous deaths throughout these last two episodes, including when Patrick is dying in bed and again in Hannah’s apartment after Adam finds out that she is gone.
While Big Daddy could be directly responsible for these losses, it also it is possible that it represents a gay grim reaper dressed in leathera bit like the one we saw earlier this season during a tarot reading.
Big Daddy is the specter of death when it comes to HIV and the panic around AIDSespecially when it comes to people queer who suffered the brunt of this trauma in the 1980s and 1990s.
AND that’s why Big Daddy keeps showing up again and again in Gino’s life, killing his lovers one by one.. But Gino refused to back down from this horror. Until the very end, Gino continues to fight him and in doing so also helps protect others in the community.
