Was the Doctor House interpreter as bad as his character? At least that’s according to a magazine interview with comedian Hugh Laurie Radio Times.
After noting that at the time she couldn’t go shopping without a basket of fans, Laurie admits that her fame took a toll on her:
All this seemed absurd to me. it is funny ! What was I doing but playing, telling stories with really nice people? What could be holding back there? Repeating any routine every month can be a nightmare.
The actor was paid a very handsome £250,000 for the series per episode (about 280,000 euros) and says that he did his work seriously and “ethically”, but emphasizes:
There were times when I thought, “If I had an accident on the way to the studio and got a few days to recover, how awesome would that be?”
The pace of filming an average of 22 episodes per season for eight years was clearly not to the liking of the actor. It should also be noted that as a British citizen, Laurie has been away from her family since the series was filmed in the US, and this separation has been quite difficult.
Since ending Doctor House in 2012, Laurie has directed many other series, often shorter, such as The Night Manager, directed 2 seasons of the HBO comedy Avenue 5, and recently completed Pourquoi pas Evans?, an adaptation of Agatha Christie. which he himself controlled.
