Michael B. Jordan Was Depressed To Record ‘Black Panther’: Did He Go Too Far For His Role?

He ‘Creed III’ opens on March 3, film in which Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez will make his acting debut alongside Michael B. Jordan.

The latter will not only be the star of the film, but will also make his directorial debut. For this reason, the actor has not stopped giving statements about everything related to this new project.

But in an interview with “Rolling Stone,” between questions, B. Jordan revealed a little-known detail about another one of his films: “Black Panther.”

Michael B. Jordan has played various roles (like Oscar Grant in ‘Fruitvale Station’ which you can watch for free on ViX), but one of the most famous is the villain Killmonger in ‘Black Panther’.

He is a complex character, who has a lot of resentment towards his Wakandan family and society in general.

At the time when Michael B. Jordan got so deep into the Killmonger story that he sank into great sadness:

“Killmonger allowed me access to pain. And the unforgivable disappointment I had. But then obviously there is a sadness that comes with it. I immersed myself in it for much longer than I ever have.

Michael B. Jordan stopped seeing his family in ‘Black Panther’

Michael B. Jordan prepared so much to bring this Marvel character to life, like other controversial Hollywood method actors, that he stopped seeing his family to connect more with Killmonger’s emotions:

“Coming out of it [papel] it was hard to want love. Because during filming I was away from family and children and everything that Killmonger never had.”

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2019, Michael B. Jordan explained more about the problem playing this highly motivated villain gave him.

He admitted that he went to therapy for help, because after the recording of “Black Panther” he used to shut people out and be alone all the time:

“It was a bit difficult for me at first. Re-attune to the people who care about me, get that love I blocked out. I shut out love, I didn’t want love. I wanted to be in this lonely place as long as I could. […] Honestly, therapy, just talking to someone helped me a lot. As a man, you relax a lot about it. I really don’t agree with that. Everyone needs to unpack and talk.”

The actor returned with a completely different attitude on the set of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, where he had a surprise that he had to hide for a long time.
