‘Physical: 100’ Is Like ‘Squid Game’ But In Real Life: Fierce Korean Competition

‘Squid Game’ or ‘The Squid Game’ became a phenomenon in 2021 and was one of the most popular series since its premiere, with 142 million viewers in one month. now in 2023 Netflix has another Korean program on top.

Korean series have proven to be successful on Netflix, with productions such as “All of Us are Dead” or “The Silent Sea”.

Proof is the success of “The Squid Game” and it deserved to be renewed for a second season, just like “Physical: 100”, the current “reality” that is trending on Netflix.

“Physical: 100”, what is the tough Korean athletics and strength competition

The show ‘Physical: 100’ arrived on Netflix on January 24, 2023 and since then has remained among the most popular around the world. Its premise is that of a competition to find the perfect body among 100 contestants.

In the intense “reality show” on Netflix, the 100 participants (of different nationalities and genders) are the people with the best physical condition and perfect bodies in all of Korea.

Contestants range from athletes such as bodybuilders, Olympians, dancers and boxers, to soldiers, wrestlers, professionals and YouTubers.

Participating in grueling and diverse competitions, the winner of 100 contenders not only boasts of having the “best body”, but also deserves a prize of about 2.5 million dollars.

Looking at the structure of ‘Physical: 100’, the comparisons to ‘Squid Game’ are obvious, as both have a large group of people competing in difficult tests, with the last one being the winner.

Also “Physical: 100” has a mysterious voice leading the show, giving challenges to the contestants and keeping the atmosphere between them that only the fittest and strongest will survive.

When the contestants have to split into teams, something similar to the “Squid Game” happens, where the men consider choosing brute force to win, only to discover that the trials don’t always call for it.

This led to ‘Physical: 100’ being called ‘Squid Game’ but in real life. However, in this program no one dies in matches.

The similarities aren’t coincidental either, the show takes influence from the ‘Squid Game’ setting and atmosphere. In addition to music director Kim Seong-su, he also contributed to the series’ soundtrack.
